Interested in becoming an influencer but unsure which job titles to look for? Influencer marketing is a fairly new role for many brands, so the titles always evolve. However, there are a handful of social media influencer jobs with recurring titles and varied levels of experience required. To help your job search, consider looking for these five jobs in the field:

Influencer

One of the most common jobs in influencer marketing is being an influencer. Influencers, sometimes referred to as brand influencers or brand sponsors, promote a company’s products on their social media channels. Influencers are usually self-employed and work with a variety of different brands.

Typical responsibilities: You’ll work to grow an organic audience and collaborate with like-minded brands to create authentic content that endorses a product or service. Content can be anything from a blog to a Shop with Me video shared on YouTube.

Skills needed:

  • Ability to create engaging content
  • Writing skills
  • Communication skills
  • Serve as an expert in a certain niche
  • Have a curated social audience

Who’s perfect for this role: Anyone who has a passion for a particular niche and can connect with an audience naturally.

How to get it: To start, you need to build an audience of at least 1,000 followers, then consider joining an influencer marketing platform, like The Creator Marketplace® to connect with brands. On this platform, you can create your own listing to market your content to brands or apply for influencer jobs posted by brands known as Casting Calls.

Influencer Marketing Manager

An influencer marketing manager typically works for a brand and focuses on coordinating influencer marketing campaigns. In the role, you’re responsible for taking a campaign from concept to completion.

Typical responsibilities: You’ll find influencers, create campaign ideas, execute influencer contracts, review deliverables, and monitor the campaign’s metrics.

Skills needed:

  • Marketing or communications degree
  • Marketing experience within a brand
  • Experience with successful influencer marketing campaigns
  • Communication
  • Organization
  • Strong understanding of metrics

Who’s perfect for this role: The ideal candidate is a marketer with three to five years of experience in the marketing industry. He or she must have experience working with influencers and effectively launching campaigns. Experience with an influencer marketing platform like IZEA Flex could be helpful, too.

How to get it: To apply for an influencer marketing manager position, you’ll need a degree, experience with this marketing niche, and, ideally, a portfolio of campaign examples that a prospective employer can review.

Influencer Agent

An influencer agent works on behalf of influencers to find brands to work with. They find opportunities, negotiate contracts and compensation, and coordinate the logistics of a campaign. An agent usually works within an agency, but each agent has his or her own list of influencers that they represent. Compensation is generally a commission on the sale made.

Typical responsibilities: An influencer agent builds relationships with influencers and brands and makes connections between the two. An agent actively looks for sponsorship opportunities and influencers to work with.

Skills needed

  • Marketing
  • Sales experience
  • Experience brokering deals
  • Self-starter
  • Communication

Who’s perfect for this role: Someone with a background in influencer marketing or experience representing others in a similar field, like writers or actors.

How to get this role: Some agents may have a degree in marketing or communications, but it’s not required. Agents usually have sales experience, negotiation skills, and a personal drive to find and execute deals. You could start by applying for a job with an influencer marketing agency.

Content Creator

Content creators are responsible for producing a variety of different content. You’ll see various job titles for this position, like social media content creator or TikTok content creator. The title varies depending on the role.

Content creators might work for an agency and create content for various clients or work with a single brand to produce things like blogs, video demonstrations, and static social posts.

Typical responsibilities: You’ll study brands, review products, and create specified content by pre-determined deadlines. You’ll communicate regularly with a coordinator or members of a marketing department to produce and deliver content.

Skills needed:

  • Strong photography or videography skills
  • Graphic design
  • Editing
  • Communication
  • Organization

Who’s perfect for this role: Those with a strong portfolio of content examples and experience creating content for a brand. You’ll likely need experience working with a marketing department too.

How to get this role: Generate content that can be showcased in a portfolio and look for jobs based on your levels of experience and work history.

What’s the difference between a content creator and an influencer? An influencer creates content and shares it with their audience to influence their decisions. A content creator just creates content and isn’t concerned with growing a following or maintaining an online presence.

Influencer and Social Commerce Lead

A job that combines influencer marketing with organic social media, Influencer and Social Commerce Lead is a fairly new position in the marketing field.

Typical responsibilities: You’ll innovate ways to leverage organic social media and influencer marketing campaigns. You’ll take each campaign from concept to completion, which could mean finding influencers, specifying campaign details, negotiating contracts, collecting and reviewing deliverables, and monitoring metrics. Organic campaigns like social giveaways are also part of the day-to-day.

Skills needed:

  • Social media marketing
  • Communication
  • Influencer marketing
  • Experience working with brands
  • Social commerce experience

Who’s perfect for this role: Someone with knowledge of social selling and the marketing tactics needed to increase sales. You’ve likely worked for a brand and managed both social media and influencer campaigns.

How to get this role: Complete an entry-level social media job for a brand to gain appropriate experience before applying for this role.
