Upon looking around the office one day, I noticed that many of our employees have legs and quite a few of them have brains!  And so I thought, what can we do with these legs and brains of ours?  Why, participate in a Zombie 5k Obstacle run, of course!  So, we did.

Together with our CEO, Ted Murphy, the IZEA Zombie Apocalypse Survivors were born!  We braved moaning, muddy, bloody, and sometimes overly eager zombies in a fun midday run.  Yes it was tough- and not all of us made it out alive, but it was a great chance to get physical, take some fun pictures, and fear for your life without being in actual peril…unless you are poor Patrick and got left (yes, as in, abandoned) at the run site, well past nightfall.

It was a somewhat chilly day (did you see our leggings) and we knew it was going to be a haul for our seasonally plump bodies, but man was it fun!  We started off by comparing our gear- sneakers, boots and cleats were common choices, as were sweat bands, swim trunks and a horse head.  The event location was full of gross zombies and zombie hunters, beer, giant turkey legs and live music.  There were cold showers and handy dandy clean-up stations (complete with a world of port-o-potties), too!  In short, just like a real apocalypse!

The course itself was pocked with zombie zones, wayside health flags (the goal was to finish the course with all your flags in place- that’s what the zombies were after…no flags mean you’ve become one of the undead) and the occasional too-serious runner (or zombie).  We stayed in a group, for the most part (apologies to Amelia and Tom) and finished together (…er…apologies to Patrick).  Nobody got hurt, though Ted was the first to draw blood and I did lose my glasses, but it was worth it!  Where did I lose them, you ask?  Why, sliding down this beast:

How did we feel upon finishing? Like this…and like the images below.  Look at us, rockin’ our participation medals- yee haw!  What a day…and we survived, brains and limbs intact (mostly).
