In 2011, two years after Bitcoin launched, former Google engineer Charlie Lee founded Litecoin (LTC). Litecoin was designed to be an improvement on its predecessor, using a faster block generation rate and a proof-of-work algorithm called Scrypt. By the end of 2021, Litecoin was the 14th-largest crypto on the market. Although it does share similarities with other cryptocurrencies, Litecoin has some distinct differences. First, it can be mined with a personal computer thanks to an approximate transaction confirmation time of 2.5 minutes (vs. Bitcoin’s 9 minutes per transaction). Second, Litecoin’s total fixed supply is limited to 84 million coins (vs. Bitcoin’s 21 million), of which 69 million were in circulation as of November 2021. As more people add Litecoin to their digital wallets, they look to these nine Litecoin influencers to give them the latest scoop.
