Nowadays, becoming an influencer is a career that more and more people are getting excited about. Whether you’re a creator on a blog, YouTube, TikTok, Twitch or Instagram, there are plenty of ways to get involved in this new form of marketing. Don’t let the number of followers you have hold you back from getting started.

Having millions of followers isn’t what all brands are looking for because they’re placing more value on an engaged community and collaborative partnership. In fact, brands plan to spend 22% more of their budgets on micro-influencers in upcoming partnerships. That’s good news for those creators who are just starting out.

Here are a few ways to become a successful influencer on your favorite platform.

Shout out brands you already love

Get on a brand’s radar. If you already share their content, tag them in your Stories, posts and videos. The more you tag brands or interact with their social media channels, the more apt they are to work with you. Even if they’re not working with smaller creators yet, establishing a strong relationship with a brand early on will be helpful in the long run. Slow and steady wins the race for some partnerships.

Work with a brand in exchange for a product

Another way to get involved with a brand is to work in exchange for reviewing a product. While not all influencers love this strategy because they aren’t paid, it’s a great way to get started and have a few partnership examples under your belt.

For most brands, giving away products isn’t a huge cost, and they’d be happy to exchange that for a little word of mouth. But remember, only recommend the product if you love it. Audiences, no matter what size, can sense when a creator is being inauthentic, which may hurt you in the long run.

Spend time creating a schedule and polished content

Being a successful influencer isn’t all about audience numbers. If you’re not keeping your audience engaged with fun content and a schedule, you’re likely to notice your audience start to dwindle. If you’re just getting started, having a schedule for your content is important as you grow your audience. This way, people know when to return to your platform, and you’ll show up in the algorithm the more you post. Each social media is different, so make sure you’re keeping that in mind. For example, you may want to post on TikTok daily, but YouTube influencers may only be able to make polished content one or two times a week.

Create a profile in our Marketplace

Audience size shouldn’t prevent you from creating a profile in our Marketplace. You can find a collaboration no matter what size your following is. Filling out your profile is key, as most brands are searching for their ideal influencer on the Marketplace looking for specific requirements. You can also send in a pitch on any Casting Call that you feel like you’d be a good fit for.

Finding success as an influencer is entirely up to you. Whether you’re looking to take it on full-time or as a creative outlet, you can find success as an influencer easily on your favorite platform.
