Meet Sophie, our fall content marketing intern. Sophie recently graduated from Auburn University, where she received her degree in marketing. The 23-year-old currently lives in her home state of Texas and is pursuing a job in advertising and marketing. In her free time, she enjoys watching Auburn football, spending time with her family back home, and trying new recipes.
What was your college major, and how did it relate to this internship?
I went to Auburn University and majored in marketing. This internship allowed me to use a lot of the knowledge I gained through my marketing courses at Auburn. One of the main courses that prepared me for this internship was digital marketing. I used skills from that class and knowledge from certifications in HubSpot.
What did you learn as an intern?
As an intern, I learned the importance of time management and teamwork. This internship provided my first experience working with a remote company and taught me that remaining disciplined and completing work on time is important. I learned how easy it is to collaborate with coworkers and complete projects successfully.
Would you recommend an internship at IZEA?
I loved working with IZEA for this internship, and I would highly recommend it to anyone else looking to learn more about the marketing field. This internship gave me knowledge in all aspects of the marketing department and showed me that people at IZEA are so welcoming and helpful.
Did the remote internship fit in with your class schedule?
This remote internship lined up perfectly with my class schedule, and my supervisor Marette was always very accommodating. I went to classes every morning and could go home, take a breather, and then continue interning for the rest of the day. Whenever I had a big test or project due, Marette always allowed me to focus on school and finish my internship assignments later.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Since the start of COVID, I took an interest in cooking and enjoy spending my free time looking up recipes and trying to cook new meals. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family and watching Auburn football.
What are your goals?
My goals are to embrace the opportunity of a new beginning post-graduation and focus on working in a marketing position. My ideal goal is to work in content production or digital marketing.
Anything else you want to add about IZEA and your internship?
IZEA provided me not only with a great experience but with the opportunity to speak to co-workers at all levels in the marketing department and experience what their day-to-day was like in different positions. Many of the co-workers at IZEA were very helpful and gave great advice about moving forward in a marketing position.
