Math Antics

Long-time friends Rob and Jeremy started dabbling with math video production in 2008 after struggling to find engaging math resources for kids. Since then, they’ve grown their YouTube channel to 2.46M subscribers with tutorials on algebra, geometry, algorithms, and more. From “What are percentages?” to finding the percent of a number and calculating percent change, the entertaining and easy-to-understand videos go into detail on specific topics. 

Alexis Loveraz

While schools were closed for the pandemic, Alexis began teaching lessons in algebra, geometry and chemistry on TikTok and Discord. He covers a wide range of topics, including mean, mode, and median, irrational numbers, and inverse functions. Now attending Dartmouth, the math whiz still helps his 632.8K TikTok followers, largely with math SAT questions.

The Math Sorcerer

The Math Sorcerer isn’t just good at explaining things like axioms of probability and quadratic equations, but he also believes that anyone can learn mathematics. Beyond solving exponential equations and finding the limit of a constant in calculus, he also offers real advice for taking final exams and how to study for math tests. His 284K YouTube subscribers even dig his relaxing study sessions with no sound, other than the rain and thunder in the background.

Mathologer

Burkard Polster is a math professor and content creator with more than 766K subscribers on YouTube. Unlike many of the other influencers listed, he doesn’t focus on tutoring his audience in math, but rather the more complex and fascinating applications of math. There’s an entire playlist dedicated to Rubik’s cubes, including a simple trick to design your own solutions and how to put a Rubik’s cube in a bottle. There are also fun videos on “Math in the Simpsons,” covering Homer’s theorem and Apu’s paradox, as well as videos about Riemann’s paradox and Ramanujan’s infinite root

McCarthy Math Academy

Sarah McCarthy is a teacher on a mission: To make math fun, make it click, and make it stick for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Her catchy songs like “Multiplication Mash Up” and parodies of “Shake It Off” and “Uptown Funk” really get stuck in your head. From plotting fractions on a number line to rounding numbers, her upbeat videos are perfect for elementary school learners.

Silent Math

Arlene Resendiz hosts this ironically named TikTok account with 1.1 million followers on which she explains a spectrum of math problems. Her audience can learn how to calculate the volume of a cylinder, turn a percent into a fraction, and divide decimals. She offers a series on GED math and even incorporated a Big Game party into a math problem.

Standup Maths

It’s hard to find math boring when standup comedian Matt Parker is teaching it! With 985K YouTube subscribers, he works hard to keep them entertained with videos of math-related problems, like how you prove a prime is infinitely fragile and what the biggest tangent of a prime is. He also covers complicated math card tricks and explains what a vampire matrix is.

Math with Mr. J

With the tagline, “YouTube’s Favorite Math Teacher,” Mr. J has 335K subscribers who count on him to learn about multiplying mixed numbers, calculating the area of a circle given the radius, and simplifying fractions, among other topics. His playlists are divided into categories, like “Data and Statistics.” so students know where to find videos about interquartile range, mean absolute deviation and finding the mode. Other content teaches converting Celsius to Fahrenheit, creating a line plot, and solving negative exponents.

Don’t Memorise 

With a primary focus on 6th- to 10th-grade math and science, it’s not surprising that this YouTube channel has amassed 2.42 million subscribers. Students can learn about different types of angles, percentage vs. percentile, and conditional probability. There are some fun tricks, including one about prime numbers, and real-life examples, like this video about profit and loss.

Learn With Mrs. Hossain

Mrs. Hossain loves teaching her TikTok viewers fun shortcuts and tricks to make learning math easier. Sometimes she even shows students multiple ways to solve an equation so they can choose one that fits their learning style. From showing the order of operations and using the fried chicken method to divide fractions with unlike denominators, she makes her videos interesting for students of all ages.
