With Instagram constantly making updates and coming up with new ideas for its creators, it’s hard to keep up with all of the changes. If you’re a creator or brand with a significant amount of followers, one thorn in your side has probably been the direct messaging feature. Well, it looks like Instagram is focusing on making some big changes to the DMs in 2022 after some big promises of Instagram updates for creators at the end of 2021. The changes to the DMs may not seem important to everyone, but they can be quite helpful to brands and creators using Instagram to help them grow their businesses.
7 Instagram updates to DM coming in 2022
Reply while browsing
Who here has ever been personally victimized by a message popping up that causes you to lose your spot while scrolling on your feed? This new feature will allow you to reply to a message quickly while you’re scrolling without losing your place on your feed.
Quick sending
Did you find a post that inspires you while scrolling your feed and want to send it to all of your other influencer friends? Or maybe a brand’s new product is exactly what you’ve been looking for? You’ll now be able to quickly send a post to your friends via DM without losing your spot while scrolling. Just tap and hold the share button on a post and reshare it with your closest friends.
Status
Want to know if your favorite brand or other creator is online? Check out their status in your DMs! At the top of your inbox you’ll be able to see who is online right now so you can hopefully catch them and make a connection right now.
Silent messaging
Does inspiration hit you at 2 in the morning and you’re really not looking to wake anyone else up? Or maybe you know they’re busy and don’t want the notification to pop up right away? With the new silent messaging feature, you can type @silent at the beginning of your message and your DM will silently land in their inbox without a notification bothering them.
Low-fi chat theme
The current Instagram inbox can be a bit overwhelming for creators and brands. With the new low-fi chat theme, you can chill out your experience with a cute cityscape and even a cat. Instagram’s hope with this change is that conversations in the DMs will feel more personal.
Polls
Polls are a great way to interact with your followers on Instagram, but now they can be used in the DMs. If you have a group DM with followers or other creators, now you’ll be able to add a poll to figure out what content they’re hoping you’ll focus on or maybe it’s just a fun, easy way to decide where you all want to go to lunch that day.
Music Sharing
Does your brand focus on music or are you a musician? This new music sharing feature will be helpful for you. This feature will allow you to share a favorite song that’s on Apple Music, Amazon Music and even Spotify (coming soon!) and the receiver will be able to play, pause and replay the song right within their inbox. If you’re not a music-focused creator, this is still a fun feature that will allow you to share your favorite songs directly with your connections.
As Instagram continues to make changes in hopes to keep users on the app, we’ll keep you updated on how best to use the new features to grow your brand and following.
