If adding influencers to your brand’s marketing efforts is part of your current goals, getting started can be half the battle. Once you’ve found the right influencer fit for your brand, how do you get started on influencer outreach and get them to say yes to a sponsored partnership?
Not every influencer will say yes, depending on what they feel is best for their audience, the timing of the project, and so much more, but there are a few ways to make your brand stick out so you can land the best partnerships for your goals.
How to approach influencers
Approaching influencers can vary depending on the type of creator with whom you want to work. To get started, make sure you’re following them (especially on the platform you’d like to work with them on) and interact with their content before approaching them. That way, they’ll already be familiar with your brand, and they’ll know that you’ve taken some time to get to know them.
If you’re already past that point, you’ll want to look into how the creator prefers to be contacted. For example, many content creators add their business email to their profile or have something like “DM for partnerships” in their bio. Also, make sure you’ve done your research on influencer outreach.
If you’re unable to find the influencer’s email address and they don’t have their preferences in their social media profile, it’s probably easiest to find them on Instagram and send them a DM. Make sure the first few words of your DM catch their eye — you never know how many DMs they’re getting a day. Something like “COLLABORATION” or “Let’s Work Together” to start and then get down to business in your message. Most importantly, you’ll want to personalize your email or DM to the influencer so they feel excited to work with a brand that’s already done their research.
As experts in influencer marketing, we have created a few influencer outreach templates that you can copy and paste for the initial messages that will help you get started. Be enthusiastic in your message, sharing exactly why you want to work with them. Make your message short but thorough with a call to action at the end, encouraging them to respond to you with their interest.
The more information you’re able to give upfront, the better. Make the influencer feel special and excited to work with a brand that’s just as excited to work with them.
