Aspiring creators can learn a lot from the highest-paid influencers.

Portuguese professional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list of the world’s most successful influencers, with an estimated net worth of $115 million dollars and 442 million Instagram followers. Ronaldo makes approximately $2.4 million per sponsored post.

Reality-star-turned-beauty-mogul Kylie Jenner has practically grown up on camera. With a net worth of $600 million, the entrepreneur’s 339 million Instagram followers help her earn around $1.8 million per post.

Lionel Messi, another famous soccer player with international fame and 328 million Instagram followers, rakes in approximately $1.8 million for each post.

Each of these famous faces continue to grow their presence–and their fortunes–with social media. So what’s their secret? We’ve examined the habits of these highest-paid influencers to help you improve your own influencer game.

1. Be mindful of your public persona

A highly-successful influencer recognizes the importance of being transparent and authentic in all areas of life–not just in the virtual world.

Be thoughtful about what you put out into the world. Don’t let a moment of impulsivity wreck all the hard work you’ve put into building your brand.

Bethenny Frankel is a reality TV-star-turned-entrepreneur with a reported net worth of $80 million and a reputation for speaking her mind and keeping it real.

Bethenny has recently found a new favorite pastime–trying out beauty products of all price ranges. No matter the price tag, Bethenny is direct about what she likes and what’s just not worth the hype. It’s her authenticity that keeps her 2.9 million Instagram followers engaged.

2. Create a steady stream of content

Consistency is key. Engage your followers and maintain their interest by posting fresh, timely content on a regular basis.

Whether it’s posting photos, reels, sharing exciting news, or posting reviews of newly-launched products, give your followers something to look forward to on your feed.

Make sure that what you’re posting or sharing is interesting, relevant to your brand, and helpful to your community of followers for the best results.

Although there’s no magic number when it comes to how many times you should share on social media, here’s a list of how often you should aim to post content, on average, per channel.

Suggestions range from 3-7 posts weekly on Instagram to 1-5 daily tweets on Twitter.

3. Connect with fellow influencers

Connecting with your fellow influencers often leads to a mutually beneficial relationship.

Other influencers aren’t just competition–joining forces with them is an opportunity for continued growth and expansion.

By befriending your fellow social media mavens, you can collaborate on giveaways, campaigns, and get noticed by new brands and businesses.

By interacting with other influencers’ social media feeds, commenting on their posts, and even sharing their content, you’re opening yourself up to a whole new crop of potential followers–and they’re likely to return the favor.

YouTubers Anastasia Kingsnorth and Saffron Barker are mega influencers who maintain separate channels, but also post joint videos for their followers.

Whether they’re sharing a no budget gift swap or best friend shopping challenge, this duo always makes the most of their chances to collaborate.

4. Check your metrics for continued improvement

To succeed, you need to take stock of your online presence occasionally. Look at your metrics to examine what’s working, what’s not, and what you could do better.

Here are some smart things to look at:

  • Which posts have generated the most likes? What was attention-grabbing about them?
  • Is your follower count growing or stagnant?
  • Which platforms are you most present and active on? Which platforms need more attention?
  • What are other influencers doing–and doing well–that I should be doing?
  • What type of content do you need to share more of or scale back on?
  • Which posts are most successful at generating click-throughs or leads?

Once you’ve got a clear look at your current situation, formulate a plan to take your online presence to the next level.

5. Give yourself a break

The digital world never sleeps, but you still need to. No matter how driven you are, everyone needs a break for their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

For example, try setting aside a day or two each week to commit to resting, relaxing, and recharging during a digital-free time period.

If you aren’t quite ready to commit to entire days without social media, try creating a schedule–and sticking to it. Set specific time periods where you’re not attached to your phone or laptop. Our brains respond well to structure, and you’ll reap the benefits of having a more well-rounded routine.

You’ll avoid burnout and be ready to return to work with a renewed sense of spirit and followers eagerly awaiting your next post.
