Giving back is an important part of The IZEA Way. Last weekend, 13 IZEAns, friends and family got out from behind our computer screens and into the community. We teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Orlando Area to help renovate an existing house.
Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to provide affordable living and revitalize areas where substandard living has become the norm. Everyone who ends up with a new or revitalized home has to do a set number of volunteer hours with the organization first. It fosters a true ‘Pay it Forward’ attitude.
Equipped with brushes, rollers and our determined attitudes, we got right to work priming the exterior of the house.
(Notice the matching head leans?)
We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day and location. We were all a little apprehensive when we realized we would be spending the whole day on the exterior of the house… in June…in Florida. Fortunately, it wasn’t much of an issue – the humidity didn’t smack you in the face when you walked out your front door and the rain stayed away. The site itself was shady thanks to some tree cover. The side of the house I was assigned was in shade for most of the day (lucked out there). Habitat for Humanity graciously provides water and Gatorade. Hydration was key my friends.
In true IZEA fashion, we made sure to have a little fun in the midst of our hard work – #MakeItRain.
Even just the coat of primer was a big improvement on the house. Another volunteer group will come back to paint the house its final color. Best of luck to them! We hope the family enjoys their newly revitalized home.
A big IZEA shout out Mark, the Contractor, Lisa, the Crew Lead, and everyone at the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Area for all their efforts in the community.
Not only did we have a blast getting our hands dirty, but we raised over $1,100 which goes to supplies and materials for building these homes. If you are interested in donating to or volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, you can do so here if you’re local to Orlando or find a branch in your area.
