When Ted Murphy, founder and CEO of IZEA, wanted to make people excited about coming to work, one thing he did was hang a huge lighted sign that said “WOW” at the main entrance.

He hired local artists to paint walls and build desks, put in a bar and stage and added a lot of eclectic features.

The result is a “wow” office with all the colors of the rainbow. The company, which specializes in sponsored social media advertising, plans an open house party next week to show off the new digs.

IZEA FEATURED

From Ted Murphy, IZEA Founder & CEO

“We’re in recruiting mode right now,” says Murphy, who helped raise $12 million in new investment for IZEA a year ago. “We want to set the tone for people the minute they come through the door.”

IZEA is hiring sales people and programmers/engineers. Its online platform is designed with the Ruby on Rails framework, which requires unique expertise. The new offices are designed to help attract talent, Murphy said.

“The core of our business is about creators and creativity. People who work here play music, paint, create art. We wanted our offices to reflect that,” Murphy said.

Most of Murphy’s employees work from the office, he says.

“Some salespeople can work remotely but we like the engineers to be here,” he said. “We do stream company meetings to remote locations.”
