Many full-time IZEAns got their start as interns. Today we’re chatting with Software Engineer Timothy Konzel, who did his IZEA internship in 2018. Many IZEAns called him “Timtern” at the time. Lately, he’s been nominated to be a Product Engineering Honoree in 2021 for his work to enhance our products.

What made you want to intern at IZEA?

“I wanted to intern at IZEA because it seemed laid back and a good fit for my interests.”

He had heard about IZEA’s company culture and thought it would be a great place to intern and work.

“The culture is that we like to work hard and have fun.”

What did you do as an engineering intern?

“I mostly worked on making our automated software tests run faster.”

What was the biggest lesson you learned?

“In the software world you largely work on your own stuff prior to professional experience and don’t have to go through code reviews and taking feedback, so my biggest lesson was just learning how to do that and to not be afraid to ask questions.”

Do you have any tips for new interns?

“Make connections with people and be confident. Ask questions so that you can make it a good learning experience.”

What do you like about your job now?

“I like the freedom to work on different areas and products over the years and the coworkers who have become friends over the years. In my time here I’ve worked on Unity Suite, promoted posts, Collab Suite and upcoming new products. I’ve also worked on manual verification in Unity to ease the burden on Unity’s support team.”
