SocialSpark Influencer of the Month

1. What originally attracted you to the IZEA/SocialSpark community and how did you find out about it?
I learned about SocialSpark through other DIY and Design Bloggers. Once I joined and was receiving offers to work with large brands, I decided to start showcasing IZEA ads on my website.

2. Describe your blog in 140 words or less…
Jenna Burger, Designer, Creative Consultant, and Writer of SAS Interiors strives to inspire and deliver smart, stylish, and sophisticated design solutions through her creative design blog, SAS Interiors. SAS Interiors is a design resource blog dedicated to inspiring others through DIY creations, decorating ideas, and interior design inspiration. Jenna is passionate about design and assisting others to be inspired and making their vision a reality. With her hands-on Designer approach, she enjoys do-it-yourself projects and outside-of-the-box solutions on a budget.

3. Why SAS Interiors?
SAS Interiors is short for simple, affordable, stylish which delivers creative ideas and solutions for a tight budget.

4. When did you first start blogging and what made you first hit the keyboard?
I began blogging two years ago in September 2010 and it evolved from starting my own Interior Design business. At the time, I had never anticipated starting a daily blog, but thought it would be fun to write an occasional inspirational post. As the months continued, I really enjoyed the interaction with others and inspiring them to create a space they love, so blogging became very important in my creative brand.

5. Do you ever get stumped for what to write? How do you overcome this?
Yes and No. Design is ever evolving and with some thought, I can always find something to write about. My favorite posts to write are on the DIY projects I create. I have gone through creative dry spells, but they don’t last long. I can simply look around me, open a book, or visit a store, and all of a sudden an idea comes to my head.

6. We all know maintaining a quality blog can be quite time consuming. How do you balance keeping up your blog and being a wife and mother?
My life as an entrepreneur, blogger, wife, and mother is quite hectic – I would be lying if I said it was easy. I have found balance though by devoting specific days / times to my blog / business, and specific days / time to my family, so I am completely in-the-zone at those moments. The beginning was the hardest when I was trying to establish myself and find “who I was” in blogland, but now I often feel like I can coast along and at the end of the day, it can’t all get done – that’s what tomorrow is for.

7. What do you love about IZEA/SocialSpark?
As a member of SocialSpark for over a year, I have really enjoyed creating a business partnership with them and receiving offers to work with businesses that fit the niche of my blog and audience. Recently I was contacted by someone at SocialSpark regarding a campaign and I thought the one-on-one correspondence regarding the details of the campaign was very helpful.

8. What has been your favorite SocialSpark campaign?
I have quite a few campaigns that I’ve really enjoyed. My most favorite was reviewing the site, HomeMint, the new online store created by Justin Timberlake and Estee Stanley. It was interesting to learn about another Design Resource and how celebrities collaborated to share their true passion for Interior Design.

9. What tips can you give other bloggers that can help set them apart and stand out?
My biggest piece of advice is to be true to yourself and don’t compare yourself to others. They’re difficult words to follow (even for me at times), but so important to allow yourself to grow and truly show the real person inside.

10. Complete this thought: If I could, I would…
clone myself. I am so happy with the direction that my life has taken over the last two years. Not only do I have a flexible schedule around my family’s needs, but I am a successful entrepreneur. I feel that there could always be more hours in the day and having a second one of “me” would be very helpful.
