Ebyline and Editor & Publisher are pleased to announce the 100% Journalism Challenge spurring innovation and invention within journalism by offering up to $35,000 for projects that propose to cover a topic from start to finish, top to bottom, end to end.

The contest will accept entries from Sept. 12 to Oct. 12 and ten finalists will be selected by our judging panel to present their ideas in depth. This journalism challenge is open to all—journalists and non-journalists alike—who care about news coverage and want to make a difference in the evolving media landscape.

The genesis of 100% Journalism is a column by media commentator Jay Rosen that got our respective organizations—one a platform for connecting freelancers and publishers, the other a key source of information to the decision-makers who produce the journalism we all consume—thinking about how to induce new ideas, new concepts and new practices in an industry where rapid change is both a threat and an opportunity.

At the core of the challenge is a question: what subject would you cover completely if you had a vast, virtual newsroom at your fingertips? Would it be a sports team, an industry, a political race? Would it be something global such as climate data, something national like the impact of U.S. healthcare reforms on hospitals, or something intensely local such as the issuance of building permits? It’s up to you to figure out how you would use Ebyline’s talented freelance journalists and newsroom tools to meet your goal of complete coverage. Ebyline, E&P and our esteemed judges, not to mention all those talented freelance writers, will help make it happen.
