So where was I 5-10 years ago? Well, the truth be told, I can’t really say too much about that time, because most of it would not be appropriate. Suffice it to say, those were my late high school/early college years, and I did have a good time. The reason I can’t disclose too much is because I’m not exactly sure about various statutes of limitation. So instead, here are some highlights…

Graduated high school in ’99. Over the next couple years, I did a bit of traveling throughout the Caribbean. At one point, I visited the land of my origins. That was fun. You can live like a king on the American dollar there.
Some highlights of that trip; I witnessed a possession and a subsequent exorcism, I was caught up in a race riot/attempted military coup, and at one point I woke up in the back of a pickup truck that was stopped by a flaming roadblock, and had about a half dozen AK-47’s trained on myself and my companions. I tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve driven through a bonfire to escape machine gun wielding rebels. At 4-5ish in the AM, it’s better than coffee.
I once worked at a zoo with primates and some other exotic animals. That was probably the highlight of that time of my life. Ever wrestled with a lizard that can and wants to kill you and eat you? Good times. The lemurs were my favorites though. They don’t necessarily want to kill you, but if you’re not careful, you will get peed on.

But aside from the occasional exciting moment, I was just another college student, with a typical college itinerary; party, party, party, party, show up for a test, wash, rinse, and repeat. Changed my major a few times as well. I also did a lot of mechanical work on heavy trucks. That was fun too. I still do, but not nearly as much as I used to.

Well that’s my past in a nutshell. Did I enjoy those days? You bet. Did I do a lot of stupid things that could have landed me in a lot of trouble or worse? You bet. Would I do it again? Without a doubt.
