Ok, our first day, we basically walked around for a couple hours, bought some mystery ice cream from some vending machines, marveled at our hotel room, and were asleep by 6 PM, Tokyo time. Hey, in our defense, we’d been awake for over 30 hours, the entire travel time -from leaving Pete’s house, to sitting in our hotel room- took exactly 24 hours, so lay off.
Our hotel room is insane- the view is spectacular, the furniture have lights under them, so that you don’t stub your toes when walking around. You can control every electronic device from your room’s phone. The bathroom’s mirror automatically de-fogs in a rectangle exactly where your face/torso would be. The toilet is super advanced and I’m pretty sure I can like, check my email on it or something, it’s crazy. And, the staff? Are amazing- so helpful and friendly and I got sort of caught in a bowing match with one young lady…it was sort of awkward, but I didn’t want to be rude, so I kept returning her bow…same with her, I guess!
Yesterday, our second day, we got up at 4AM so we could be at the big fish market, which was freaking awesome. Then we found some food at a local noodle house, where we ate up, then jumped on the trains and headed for a really cool and completely EMPTY theme park! It’s called the Tobu Zooland and Park, and I was the first person in line! There were only like 8 people in the park, and it had the BIGGEST wooden roller coaster I’ve ever seen- bigger than the one in the opening credits of that sitcom, Step by Step. Yes, we got sunburned, yes we got lost, and yes, I ordered a chicken patty sandwich that turned out to be a shrimp-tempura burger.
Lastly, before I go, I just want to mention that their McDonalds offer the McPork, which in Pete’s words was, “pretty good, I guess…it was on their 100 yen menu [just under $1]. Also, their video games are crazy, I played Galen in this maraca game, I also did a virtual dog-walk game [lost horribly], and Pete played a virtual train-driver game.
Today, we’re heading for the Ocean Dome, a J-League baseball game [Go Tokyo Giants!], a real Japanese dinner, and a night on the town [Akihabara’s Electric Town, Shinjuku, and Shibuya]. Oh, and if you’re wondering what happened to Luke Perry, he’s on Japanese TV, reliving his 90210 glory days- and looking VERY uncomfortable. Oh, last thing, I promise- there’s a Krispy Kreme that, and I’m NOT joking, always has a line that’s about a mile long! I really really want some Krispy Kreme now.
I just tried loading some photos and it’s not happening, you’ll have to wait until later!
