It has now been over 24 hours since I tried to activate my iPhone through iTunes. I called ATT this afternoon and after getting disconnected twice managed to get a hold of someone. That person told me that a technician would be calling me and that I had been given “priority status”. That was about 5:30pm. I called back at 6:30pm and spoke to another person, explaining that I was never contacted. That person told me that he doesn’t know why a technician would need to contact me, it was a provisioning problem and would take 6 to 24 hours to resolve.

I am crossing my iFingers that by this time tomorrow I will an iPhone that works.
