Our inaugural competition was amazing, with over 14,000 blogs being nominated and over 300,000 votes cast. Blogs under consideration in the Blogger’s Choice Awards were nominated by the fans themselves; readers were able to vote for as many blogs as they wished, in multiple categories, as long as they adhered to the competition’s rules and regulations.  The competition spawned a number of global grassroots promotional efforts, as readers campaigned for their favorite blogs.

Rosie O’Donnell, who won in the Celebrity Blogger category for her blog Rosie.com, said “It’s better than the Oscar, to me.”  Rosie first started promoting her blog’s nomination on ABC’s “The View” back in April.  Her fans responded with the most votes of any blog.  Other celebrities, such as Perez Hilton, star of VH1’s “What Perez Sez”, won three awards including Best Gossip Blog, Most Obnoxious Blogger and Worst Blog of all Time.

We are now looking for sponsors for the 2008 event. The site is current accepting early voting, and a new site design for 2008 will go live in January.
