Consumers plan to spend about $1,000 over the holiday season this year. The National Retail Federation says spending is on par with last year, and with expected supply chain disruptions, shoppers hit stores a little earlier than usual. Twitter recently released holiday data that gives marketers an inside track on how to use the platform to promote products this holiday season. We’ve reviewed the Twitter holiday data and combined it with our vast influencer marketing knowledge to give brands executable ideas to use through the end of the year.

As always, marketers will look to leverage the holiday season, but rather than rely on old campaigns, why not try something a little different this year? Here are our suggestions:

Connect with an influencer for a charitable campaign

Twitter’s data shows donations have a surge on Nov. 30, which was #GivingTuesday this year. That means giving has been on consumers’ minds.

This year, consider finding an influencer who aligns with your brand’s charitable organization and ask them to help collect donations or encourage followers to volunteer.

Of course, you can use any social platform you want for your influencer campaign, not just Twitter.

Here’s a great example of a young influencer, Miss Lexington Teen USA Marie Grace Postiglione, who did a donation drive for bullying awareness, and here’s a local businessman in Guam who donated a van full of supplies to a local school.

You can team up with a well-known influencer to collect donations for a big name charity or you can team up with a local micro influencer to do something as simple as a coat collection or canned food drive.

Push last-minute products right before Christmas

Twitter’s holiday report shows there are 49 million tweets that pertain to Christmas.

While holiday conversations start to trend up in December, Twitter chatter really picks up around mid-December, when people are searching for last-minute gift ideas.

Team up with an influencer to showcase a great last-minute gift.

If you’re selling apparel, you might ask an influencer to model a shirt or an outfit with an encouraging message to purchase the item as a #LastMinuteGift. An influencer could demonstrate a product in a quick video or create a series of “teaser videos” that build up to revealing the best gift ever.

Quick tips to work with an influencer

If you plan to work with an influencer during the holiday season, here are a few tips to make sure your campaign goes smoothly:

  • Find qualified influencers on Shake

One of the toughest aspects of an influencer marketing campaign is finding the right influencer. The good news is that you don’t have to sift through hundreds of social profiles.  You just need to visit Shake. With this platform, you can find influencers, see pricing, set terms, and complete the entire campaign in one place.

  • Be willing to collaborate

Rather than trying to plan out the entire campaign, be open to ideas. Reach out to the influencer, share your thoughts for the campaign, but be sure to ask for their feedback. Influencers know their audience and may be able to suggest a more effective way to reach them than you had planned.

  • Set clear terms

It’s important to talk through the campaign and specify the campaign’s goal, assets, hashtags, and terms. For instance, specify what kind of post you’re looking for, which hashtags are best, how many posts should be created for the set price, and how comments are handled.
