Account Manager Kristen Parody and Account Director Eryn Ivey made the very long commute down the street to the Omni Orlando Resort to attend the 2014 #SocialFresh East conference last week. Check out their recap below!

Day 1:

Let’s get started with all of the fun that we had on the first day of #SocialFresh!

There were three presentations that had us on the edge of our seats: Likeable Media’s “OWNING Your Content,” Homes.com’s “Creating Contests: A Winning Method for Crowdsourcing and Engagement,” and Dunkin’ Donuts’ “Putting our Fans First on Social.”

Likeable Media

Social Media is always changing. This landscape makes it very hard to control the content that is written about you. The good news: you are better off OWNING your content.

There are three great ways to do that: micro-content hubs that users can share content from, learning centers that hold a treasure of fun, likeable content such as infographics and videos, and company blogs to share information about how you can help your fans.

Homes.com

Pretend you are the new Social Media Manager at your job and are tasked with creating the full content calendar for the brand’s social channels (ugh!). It is way too easy to run out of images and things to share with your fans. Homes.com shared a great way to do that – contests!

Contests allow you to curate and crowd service user-generated content to share over and over again! Do you want to win $500? Share “how your neighborhood is home” on the Homes.com Facebook page for a chance to win!

Dunkin’ Donuts

Can we talk about this?!

Dunkin’ Donuts listens to their fans and their fans LOVE football! A Vine and ESPN partnership is the perfect way to speak to them in their own language.

You may not be as obsessed with DD as this lady is, but it’s so inspiring to see the dedication their fans put in for contests and promotions. This lady was definitely a fan of the week:

Day 2:

The second day of Social Fresh was full of more presentations, tweeting and fun times. The highlights came from big brands Spotify, Yahoo! and PGA TOUR.

Spotify

Spotify’s Josh Karpf showed us how you can express yourself through song so much easier than through words.

Yahoo!

Beverly Jackson from Yahoo! graced the stage twice with her presence. The first in an interview and then to give a presentation on Yahoo!’s big thinking.

Ms. Jackson’s advice with social was to be brave. You can’t be afraid to fail. She seems to have taken that to heart with this year’s strategy for Yahoo!. They’ve launched a number of Yahoo! ‘zines from Food to Tech. They are also running a concert a day series. They are doing big things over there!

PGA TOUR

Kristen’s personal favorite presentation of the day was from PGA TOUR. The PGA TOUR is taking a bit of a risk with their social strategy – they are empowering more people to post on their behalf. With so many tournaments each year, it would be impossible for one person to cover them all. Since they have an on-site team in place – they gave them the power to tweet and Instagram on behalf of the brand. The brand trained them on their strategy and what types of things should be posted. This team can capture the little moments: Tiger Woods about to walk out onto the first tee or Rory Mcilroy right after his first British Open win. Now the PGA TOUR social channels provide more access to the tournaments that you might miss from just TV coverage.

Overall, this was a great conference. Thanks to the entire Social Fresh team who put it together! We had a blast and are hoping we can make it next year!
